Worship pastor

Qualifications

  • Experience in a wide range of styles, including contemporary Christian music and hymns
  • Ability to lead worship and train others as individual and team worship leaders
  • Proficiency to lead worship both vocally and with a guitar or keyboard
  • Competency in music theory - both vocal and instrumental
  • Undergraduate degree in music or performing arts, or significant experience in this field
  • Conducting experience (vocal choir, handbell choir)
  • Good oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Worship Team (contemporary worship)
    • Recruit, equip, and train worship team members - both instrumentalists and vocalists
    • Lead, develop, and build community among the team(s); schedule the team(s) to allow for rotation in leadership
    • Participate in weekly rehearsals; provide music for team members
    • Source contemporary music for worship team from sites like WorshipTogether
    • Prepare music charts for new songs being introduced into worship
  • Participate in weekly worship planning with the Senior Pastor
    • Oversee and coordinate the details of the service, relative to music and sound/technology
    • Assist the pastor in weekly worship music selection, as well as other liturgical elements that reinforce the theme of the weekly worship service
    • Assist in scheduling worship leadership opportunities for Children and Youth Choirs
  • Conduct the Sanctuary Choir
    • Including weekly rehearsals, weekly services, special services
    • Under the leadership of the Senior Pastor, select anthems and special music pieces (Christmas and Easter, etc.)
    • Manage music library (with help from choir members)
  • Conduct the Handbell Choir
    • Including rehearsals
    • Handbells participate in worship approximately every 6 weeks
  • Serve as a resource for the Children’s Choirs and Youth Choir directors
    • Assist in selecting music specials
  • Management of Music Resources
    • Facilitate new music purchases for all choirs, with approval from Senior Pastor
    • Assist in annual budget planning
    • Supervise maintenance of music equipment, including instruments and supplies

Reports to

  • The Pastor
  • With annual performance reviews by the Pastor and Personnel Committee

 

Hours per week:  20 hours

 

Salary: Negotiable
